BREWER OF THE MONTH – December 2006

How you started brewing:

Fell in love with micro-brewed beer in the States about 15 years ago. Once bitten by the bug I was set upon a long and fruitful journey.

Favourite beer you’ve brewed:

Our Bock – we just brewed one batch for the bar here – and I think I drank most of it…

It was dark, malty-sweet and delivered a soft, delicate punch to the head.

Favourite beer you haven’t brewed:

I hate answering this question – its like what’s your favourite song? Truth is I don’t have a favourite beer. I really don’t like boring beer. But my favourite beer is generally the one I’m holding in my hand at the time you ask me, which right now is coffee. Does this this answer the question?

Greatest beer achievement:

Hightail Ale.

Favourite brewing website:

microbrewing.com.au!

How you see Australian Microbrewing industry:

In a very exciting place right now. There are big and small micros doing some great things. We’ve been talking about the good beer revolution for a long time, but maybe, just maybe its really close to happening.

Brewer you most highly respect:

Any brewer that pushes the boundaries, steers away from boring beer – anyone that adds to the beer palate.

Hint to home brewers.

Keep it clean, keep experimenting – its hard for commercial brewers to experiment – it’s the part I miss most.

Hint to microbrewers.

Push the boundaries, do something different.
