How you started brewing:

I wanted to brew beer from and early age. I studied Oenology (wine making) and although I worked in some wineries, I quickly moved into brewing, picking up a gig at the Kent brewery in Sydney in the early 1990's. I have always enjoyed using my winemaking training to make interesting small batch beers. So craft brewing is my real love and to be doing it this part of the world is just (there's no difference to making great beer at home and making great beer in a commercial brewery)

Favourite beer you’ve brewed:

Stone & Wood Draught Ale, because it's such a refection of the culture of the Byron Bay region.

Favourite beer you haven’t brewed:

Little Creatures Pale Ale, because it has been the benchmark craft beer in this country for so long.

Greatest beer achievement:

Winning the World Beer Cup Medal in 2006 with Barking Duck in the Belgian Saison style

Favourite brewing website:

Dogfish Head & Sierra Nevada Brewing Company's

How you see Australian Microbrewing industry:

Constantly evolving ! The style diversity continues to grow and expand in a number of directions, and whilst there is a place in the market for the big alcoholic Imperial American Pale Ales that are massive in hop bitterness we need to be careful we don’t end up producing beers that are just there to “outdo” the last brew or brewer.

Brewer/Brewery you most highly respect:

Chuck Hahn / Hahn Brewery - he's been living craft beer longer than most of us have been drinking, yet he still continues to strive for the next great beer .....

Hint to home brewers.

Be clean, Be real, Taste lots, travel widely, read heaps, and brew beer that is well balanced
